Tsunami in Asia. Pandemic influenza worldwide. SARS in Toronto. Obese North American populations. HIV/AIDS in Africa. What's the link?

The capacity of public health systems connects these events. The widespread devastation from the South Asian tsunami and the global response to it reminds us that public health issues are never distant from reality. They should also continue to stir us from complacency.
