Tom Cahill, football coach at Army during the height of the turbulent Vietnam War era and a five-year head coach at Union College, has died of a heart attack. He was 73.
Cahill died Thursday night in the emergency room at Ellis Hospital after being stricken while bowling, hospital officials said.
"Tom Cahill was a class human being," University at Albany coach Bob Ford said. "I knew him as a prep coach, Army coach and Union coach. He was the kind of guy you looked at and figured would be extremely gruff. He wasn't that way at all, he was a big, soft puppy dog."
