NSW: Inquiry politically motivated says Howard
Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD says his departmental head MAX MOORE-WILTON and other publicservants will be urged to tell the truth to an inquiry into the "children overboard" incident.
Mr HOWARD says it is likely Mr MOORE-WILTON and other bureaucrats from his office andthe department of defence will be called to give evidence to the Senate inquiry.
He says it is the normal course of events for public servants who are called beforea Senate inquiry to appear.
Mr HOWARD says he won't stand in the way of that because he has nothing to hide andhe has told Mr MOORE-WILTON to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
But he says the fallout over the children overboard incident is being manipulated forpolitical reasons and the inquiry will be politically motivated.
Mr HOWARD has also criticised the country's broadsheet newspapers for what he claimsis their bias on the issue.
