FED: Dention centre culture punished kindness: report
There's a report that management at the Port Hedland detention centre punished stafffor acts of kindness towards their charges and encouraged employees to dob each otherin.
The Australian says two teachers who used to work at the Western Australian centrehave described a culture of dehumanising detainees.
ROSE O'CONNOR and KATIE BROSNAN say staff who gave children lollies and allowed contactwith friends were punished, while guards were encouraged to spy on each other.
Another teacher, ELLI LEAVER, claims she was sacked after two guards wrote reportsaccusing her of having a physical relationship with a refugee, even though she deniedthe allegation.
Miss LEAVER has told the Australian she was considered too friendly toward detainees.
