Fed: Today's three-way meeting may resolve TriStar dispute
A meeting today between unions and employers may resolve the dispute crippling Australia's
automotive industry and threatening to spread to other sectors.
Three of the country's four major car makers have been forced to stand down workers
after a week-long strike by 300 workers at TriStar Steering and Suspension in Sydney.
At the heart of the dispute is a refusal by TriStar management to sign on to Manusafe,
a trust fund unions say will protect workers' entitlements.
Australian Industry Group spokesman DAVID HARGRAVES says employers are still not prepared
to discuss Manusafe at the meeting.
But Australian Manufacturing Workers Union secretary DOUG CAMERON says Manusafe will
definitely be up for discussion.
